Waste Managment

The tip is located east of the town on Leap Year Rd. To get there follow Naughton St east past the Blackcat Camp and the Cemetary and it is on the left. Council is currently reviewing its Waste Management Plan for the landfill site in line with the new legislation to be introduced known as the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Bill. Council has also started an upgrade of the tip to bring it into conformance with the current legislation and guidelines of the Department of Environment and Conservation.

Council's refuse sites require a licence from the Department of Environment and Conservation (was formally known as the DEP) and must operate under the strict requirements of that licence.

Council has moved to section the landfill so that various items can be disposed of in designated and signed areas of the landfill site. The community’s co-operation is requested so that the Shire is able to recover some resources rather than commit them to being buried. The community can contribute much by following the signs and segregating their rubbish on-site. Currently the landfill site is open all the time, and there is no attendant at the site to tell people where to dispose of their items of rubbish. This will also save the community money by lowering the maintenance costs of the up-keep of the landfill site.

Septic Tank Installations

Specifications for septic tank installation can be downloaded or viewed by referring to the Building Guidelines. However it is strongly recommended to contact Mr Bill Atyeo prior to any installation, as early advice may save unnecessary expenses. All applications are assessed by Mr Atyeo for compliance with the relevant legislation and inspected at the point of completion.

If any person has issues in regards to Building, Health, or Town Planning then they are encouraged to contact Mr Bill Atyeo through the Office of the Shire of Mount Magnet.
